What a lot of people don’t understand is that being an abuse victim is HUMILIATING in addition to being dangerous and all the rest. Go into any comment section and you’ll find “why doesn’t she just leave” and “that would never be me.” It’s hard to engage a support system when you feel ashamed. There are things he did to me that I’ll take to my grave because most people would be shocked I stayed and endured it.

I told the police how terrified I was they'd unalive my children and me when I called for help in my DV situation. Fortunately the 911 operator stayed on the phone with me and the police stood down until we got out safely 😔
