We 🙋🏾♀️🙋🏻 are one of the creators who reached out. So many creators, especially diverse voices, have stories about being signed there. When the time is right, we’ll share more.
One thing I’ll share more broadly is that when you’re part of a large talent agency, it’s very easy to get lost in the shuffle. You’re rarely a priority, and often the only time you hear from them is when a potential deal lands in YOUR inbox, collecting a commission without actively earning it. 🫤
ALWAYS have an attorney review your contracts before signing with any agency.
Also, 20% is not always standard across the board. Trust, there are creators with 10-15% commission rates.
Be very clear on exactly what they’re entitled to take a percentage from. Do NOT let any agency take a percentage of your platforms income (monetization), affiliate links, your own products and businesses (unless they helped developed it).
And most importantly, you should be able to leave (terminate your contract) without excessive penalties. 🙃

This is why boutique agencies are the way to go!! I work at idols+icons and every manager has a maximum of 10 talents, some even less. That way, we’re able to give them the attention they deserve🤍 your manager should be your right hand man & you should never feel like just a number. Sorry to hear about your experience, and keep being true to yourself!

I run campaigns for huge, top tier brands and hate dealing with DBA. I often work with large budgets too but will stop reaching out to certain creators due to their management. Take that as you will for any creators signed to them and UTA (parent company) !!

Talent Manager at a boutique agency here🙋♀️Smaller agencies are the way to go for sure. Management is like dating and it’s so important to be on the same page about your brand identity before signing. Along with being able to have open communication with your manager if that’s what you prefer. A lot of bigger agencies make talent jump through hoops and various assistants to even get a response. So nuts! I’m sorry you had that experience 😔

I think it’s so odd when managements try to change you AFTER signing you!!! Like hello??? You literally knew what type of content I create…if you wanted a beauty guru…you should have signed one

It is totally normal to not be looped into outbound emails; that stuck out to me. You should be confident in your management tho, so if you’re anxious about the way you’re being represented it probably was not a good fit.

I work on the brand partnership side and DBA rates for creators are genuinely OUTRAGEOUS. I truly think they don’t let their creators know abt some of the deals that come in and they miss out on a lot of $$$. I find it interesting bc their partner brand UTA is great to work w imo.
