it depends on the subculture, some subcultures are heavily political while some are literally just for the music and aesthetic, like goth, mall-goth, cyber goth (every single goth) decora, grunge, academia, many many more. You can be in an apolitical subculture and still be political, but those two aren't always in the same box. Everyone should be political but political ≠ alt. Most subculture were never even made around a movement, most were from music!!

the thing for me is I don't know if im a poser or not. Because the thing is I do try to be politically active but it's hard for me. I have really bad mental health and every time I've been political it's gotten so bad for me and I just try to stay away from the internet as a hole as it puts me in a bad place. But at the same time it puts me in a position to where I don't know what's going on in the world. And I have this friend who says if your not politically active your a poser and you HAVE to be a anarchist and can't support anyone who's famous because they all support communism apparently and being around this person makes me feel like a poser for just trying to preserve my metal health. Im sorry if this is to long it's been on my chest for awhile now

But genuine question why cant I be political and fight for my rights and be alt? Just because they are different or red? Also dude that’s not alternative that’s punk bro alternative is just a side style for people that don’t fit in or want to do something differently. It’s a massive genre with a ton of side genres. I’m tired of being slandered for my political opinions and not for who I am.

This video really helped me, I always thought that when it was said that alternative and politics are always together it felt like it just didnt sit right with me with that theres rules, but it does make sense that if youre able to express yourself, that freedom comes from certain rebels and other alternative people, so in that aspect I now do see how politics are really important to being alt

there's Subcultures that don't require politics like I'm a metal head and I dress in my favorite band tees and jeans listen to different types of metal subgenres and I don't fit into the norm when it comes to my interests and personality
