When I saw Leona arrive at the KP in September of 2025, I honestly didn’t know what her future would look like. Her hooves were some of the most overgrown and damaged I had ever seen. To this day, I still don’t know how she managed to move through life carrying that much discomfort. Every step must have been a challenge, yet somehow she kept going. What I did know was that if she had a chance, it would be with Pete May. Cases like Leona’s don’t come with guarantees. Horses with hoof damage this severe typically go one of two directions. The X-rays either show enough healthy structure left to work with, or they don’t. Thankfully, when Pete reviewed her radiographs, he saw something worth fighting for. The X-rays weren’t perfect. The prognosis wasn’t perfect, BUT there was hope. So we tried. Since September, Leona has remained under Pete’s care. Month after month. Trim after trim. Step by step. Slowly growing new hoof. Slowly rebuilding what years of neglect took away. That’s the part people don’t always see — the day to day— It’s not overnight. It’s not inaa single veterinary visit or one magical farrier appointment. It’s consistency. Patience. Time. A LOT of time. Growing an entirely new hoof takes about a year, and we’re still not finished. But for the first time in a very long time, Leona is moving toward a future instead of away from one and that’s because of all of YOU Your belief in us, in her, gave her a chance. Today, when I look at her, I don’t just see healthier feet. I see a horse who finally has her life back. I think she’s absolutely beautiful ❤️
