I swear a part of the audience just doesn't get it. I've seen people hoping Agnes reports what happened at the dentist? like it's gonna make it better and not absolutely worse for her? we've literally been told that it would be worse when the guardian got punished earlier in the show ("shame on any one who tempted him" and everything)! they spell it out for us and people still somehow miss it

I think Commander Mackenzie is realizing that Agnes is no longer safe in her girlhood status and he can't watch over her once she is someone's wife. He may be feeling the weight of his decisions and guilt for what's to come.

I think it was very nuanced of them to make commander Mackenzie ask about Agnes’s happiness. I think he is going to over rule Paula and let Agnes go to aunt training once the time comes and Lydia goes to intervene.
