Seventeen isn't an insane age. It's always better to talk to a trusted person and do it safely. Grown ups can help you get advice about contraception and communication. I think OP actually did a pretty great thing, now that girl knows she has someone to talk to if something bad ever happened too.

I am very strongly on the side of making sure everyone has a solid education on safe sex, and especially ways to be sure you are even ready. I think OP did an awesome job with that, but I also think that taking her to the doctor to get on medication (I know bc is normal! I've been on it since I was 16 before I knew I had pcos!) does potentially cross a line. Telling the 17 year old about that being an option allows her to make that choice, it could just be really wrong on the family's perspective for OP to take her there herself. Hoping it was an "I'm informing you, oh you want me to join you?" type of thing

My big complaint is don’t stop using two factors of birth control, no contraceptive is 100% guaranteed, hedge your bets, covering it up is better than ending up with an unexpected baby
