@adolfnomo: Our language is our identity. Our roots. Our pride. Yet today, the @Dangme language is quietly fading—not because it is weak, but because we are slowly abandoning it. Too many of us are no longer speaking Dangme to our children at home. We replace it with other languages, thinking we are giving them an advantage, but in reality, we are taking something irreplaceable away from them—their heritage. Our leaders and public figures also have a role to play. When given national platforms—on radio, television, and public events—they often choose not to speak Dangme. This sends a message that our language is not important enough to be heard, celebrated, or preserved. Even within Dangme traditional areas, we are seeing fewer Dangme teachers being posted to our schools. Instead, other languages dominate classrooms where Dangme should be nurtured. How can children learn to value their language if the system itself sidelines it? But all is not lost. Preservation starts with us. Let us speak Dangme at home—every day, with our children, siblings, and friends. Let us teach them our proverbs, our stories, and our songs. Let us make Dangme a living language, not just something we remember. Let our leaders be intentional. Speak Dangme when you are given the microphone. Normalize it. Celebrate it. Show the next generation that it belongs everywhere—even on national platforms. Let us advocate for proper representation in education. Dangme teachers must be posted to Dangme communities. Our children deserve to learn their language in school, not just outside it. Let us create, share, and promote Dangme content—books, music, social media posts, videos. The more visible the language is, the stronger it becomes. Language loss is not inevitable. It is a choice. And so is preservation. The question is: what choice are we making today? Let’s rise together to protect Dangme—for ourselves, and for generations to come. Video Credit: Awetsɛ Naerick Eric #SaveDangme #OurLanguageOurIdentity #SpeakDangme
