@ojrgb: “Claude can do this in 10 minutes!” Is a caption I see a LOT rn and I definitely have mixed feelings about it. On one hand it’s awesome seeing so many people experience the magic of software engineering. On the other hand I am (a little?) concerned about the watering down of what is essentially a very complicated magic trick to a “caricature” of what it really is. I get my kicks out of feeling like I pushed the envelope and (maybe?) that gives me the appreciation for the folks who laid the foundation and did the research that enabled me to do what I do. I’m just hoping that anyone who picks it up now develops a real love for it and doesn’t just use it for transient clout… and this isn’t to say that it’s wrong to generate something that gives you joy with AI! it does mean that if you did it in 10 minutes then everyone could, and I’m selfishly hoping you’ll use that as a springboard to push this space into new realms.
