Have you read “Sometimes a Wild God” by Tom Hirons? Your narration would fit it extremely well

The woman who raised me never allowed me to call her Mom. It was the title she deserved even though she was biologically my Aunt. On her deathbed, she was... excited. For the afterlife, to meet her God, to finally reunite with her beloved husband. And outwardly I smiled. For her. While I quietly crumbled and screamed inside. I have no gods, no belief in an afterlife, but for her...I hoped I was wrong. I miss her..

my father isn't in a box in the ground, not really. he's in every quiet hike in the woods with my dog. he's in every sea breeze, in every snap of a sail over the bow. he's in every pun and in every game of chess that I play. he's in every spring flower and every first frost. he's all around me, and always will be.

My dad's funeral was yesterday. He was supposed to be meeting his granddaughter in 3 weeks instead she'll never know the man who made me who I am. He wasn't always a good dad but his faults made me a great mother and I would've loved for him to meet her. I knew my kids wouldn't remember him, but I never imagined one wouldn't even get to met him.

My dad was handed to me in a small black box at 17. I started crying 5 seconds into this sound.

This is the kind of poem that can only be written through the depths of immense loss, and it is incredibly beautiful 🖤

This perfectly describes my brother… the small box we have carved for him on the mantle does not show the thousand people who showed up for his wake. He’s too big, and I can’t show that without a monument

How is my whole childhood, all that history and all that past, huge parts of who I am, my music taste, my sense of humour, a thousands little moments no one now will ever know about, contained in a tiny urn? How can that be? Where are you?
