The point of buying things that last is that you eventually stop buying shit

that was an awful example, the bins is what happens before they are brought to landfills, PLEASE GO TO THE BINS AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE, resell the clothes, circulate it back so it gets a second chance

guys did we forget the definition of overconsumtion😂, buying more than what you need is 100% overconsumtion, even if it's used items.

Yeah, but those people are saving those bags of clothes from going straight to landfill so I still don’t see a problem

nah this is a bad take im sorry. it doesn't matter as long as its not being thrown out. personally you could have other issues (shopping addiction, spend too much money, etc) but systemically this isn't an issue

because, along with resellers, it’s also contributing to the rising pricing that are making thrift stores unaffordable to the people that actually need them. they’re gonna keep hiking those numbers for as long as people buy it.

when people talk about overconsumption, they’re talking about the effects purchasing mass produced items consistently has environmentally. purchasing thrifted items has no environmental detriment. having lots of clothes isn’t overconsumption

yeah going to the bins and getting a huge bag of clothes every week is a bit much but it's better than letting the clothes get thrown into a landfill and as long as you don't throw the clothes away yourself and put them to use, it's fine. this is such a dumb argument because it's not actually a problem

I dont think you understand the core of what overconsumption is. Having a lot of clothes is not overconsumption. It's constantly buying clothes and then getting rid of them, because it causes a negative impact in the environment. Thrifting, even people who in your eyes go to often, is good because it prevents landfill waste, supports thrift stores to continue to take in "new" clothes, and keeps clothes in circulation longer.
