Police 1st Lt. Gen. Achuil Tito Madut General Achuil Tito Madut was a senior South Sudanese police officer and government official. He was born in Kuajok, Warrap State. He is best remembered for serving as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of South Sudan during the country's transition to independence and the early years after independence. Early career Achuil Tito Madut served in the Sudanese and later South Sudanese security services. He received professional police training and became one of the senior officers responsible for building the police service in Southern Sudan during the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) period (2005–2011). Inspector General of Police As Inspector General of Police, he oversaw the South Sudan Police Service (SSPS) and played a key role in: - Expanding and reorganising the national police force. - Supporting police training and institutional development. - Strengthening cooperation with regional police services, including Rwanda, to improve policing capacity. President Salva Kiir replaced him as Inspector General in January 2013, appointing General Pieng Deng Kuol as his successor. Government service After leaving the post of Inspector General, Achuil Tito Madut continued to serve in government, including as: - Deputy Minister of Interior of South Sudan. - State Minister for Local Government in Warrap State (also referred to in some sources as Minister for Law Enforcement Agencies/Local Government). Agriculture Following his national service, he promoted agriculture and encouraged South Sudanese citizens to invest in farming rather than political conflict, emphasising agriculture as a path to economic development. Death General Achuil Tito Madut died in Nairobi, Kenya, on 12 March 2023. His death was confirmed by family members and was widely mourned in South Sudan.
