i don’t think u can 1:1 compare any country to each other, you’re going to end up misrepresenting some aspect or another and losing nuance

It’s not just Japan. Many countries have strong anti immigrant protest. Tump’s influence is bigger than people think.

Here’s the thing: the economy has been dealing with problems for a long time since the bubble burst. Some of the dynamics you’re talking about aren’t new. I say that because I used to live in Japan, and even 20 years ago, after the bubble era, some of these trends were already becoming more hardline. Where I disagree is with the idea that there are no solutions. There are solutions — they’re just difficult solutions that I don’t think many companies want to make. For example, a lot of older employees with lifetime positions eventually have to retire, and companies relying heavily on temporary workers without creating real pathways upward doesn’t really work long-term. Then you also have different social dynamics that have contributed to very low birth rates and other issues. I’m saying all of that because I don’t think immigration alone explains economic problems. I don’t think any country necessarily needs unlimited immigration, but simply blaming immigration when there are deeper structural issues doesn’t really address the root of the problem.

America messed Japan up big time. first the American military bases in Japan. America taught Japan to be racist, and many of the problems that Japan is facing is becoz of American occupation for many years. kick American soldiers out of Japan, let Japan align with china and other Asian countries. and let Japan make products not just for the domestic market but global.

I believe japanese 'xenophobia' comes from 'purism' of imperial Japan that never left. the ideologies were passed down from their grandparents to their parents to the grandchildren. that's why the whole trump ideology works with them, they have similar ideas on those topics.

I have gone to Japan twice, you can tell the average Japanese person is struggling. They are refusing to acknowledge that their way of life is not sustainable. It’s not foreigners creating these problems, like you said it’s just easy to scapegoat them

One thing about the Japan’s constitution is that the draft was created by the group of constitution scholars and experts in Japan. It has been remained as one of the most progressive and respectable constitutions to ever exist in the world(such as protecting human rights, ensuring the pursuit of happiness, anti-war promise etc.) Thus all the liberals in Japan are for protecting it whereas the Japanese MAGAs are against it lol
