4th year medical student here (cddm)- this statement is rather misleading. if doctors were just 'guessing,' we wouldn't need med school lol just a coin flip. Empiric treatment is based on decades of data. The lab provides the targeted map, but the doctor is the one who knows how to drive the car. clinical probability ≠ guessing. diagnosis starts with physical exams, patient history, and triage.

it's another thing entirely when you're trying to say that A doctor can't diagnose nothing just because there A lab attendant is not Available btw. If a doctor can't diagnose then what's the usefulness of all the clinical correlates we or they were taught? Based on past medical history and family history with the physical interactions and examinations a good doctor can diagnose most diseases.

I don’t think people are truly understanding what this is trying to say. This post isn’t saying that doctors are constantly guessing, this post is simply saying, without medical researchers doctors wouldn’t have any idea what to do or how to treat something or what the condition even is or how it acts. I have firsthand experience with this because I myself do medical research and it’s a long, mind numbing grueling process of trying to understand why a specific condition does what it does and why does it .it takes years to even understand why or how, if ever.

The only reason I found out I wasn’t crazy for being in pain all the time was because of the MRI techs and team that gave the report on my imaging… The rheumatologist that ordered those very MRIS told me my pain was psychological. I have degenerative discs in my whole back, and grade 3 chondromalacia in both knees. And thats my old imaging its likely worse now 🤦♂️Thank you for your service, genuinely.
