@mindy.lea: For many disabled kids, including Ems, this isn’t just another swing, it’s the only thing at the playground they can use independently and safely. I know not all disabilities are visible, and I completely respect that. In this situation, it was clear the kids using it didn’t need the adaptive support, they just wanted to play on that swing. This post isn’t about blaming anyone. It’s about awareness. Many families simply don’t realize that adaptive playground equipment is sometimes the only way a disabled child can participate. As summer park season starts, a little awareness and kindness can go a long way in making playgrounds more inclusive for everyone. 💛 #disabiltyawareness #specialneedsmom #inclusion #accessibility #wheelchair

almost all new/updated parks are equipped with these swings. they are not just for disabled. they are for everyone to use. they are installed with disabled in mind but not exclusive for the disabled.

Just wanna say that not everyone is aware that is an accessible swing. Some parents think it’s just for younger kids or a more safe option for all kids. While it may seem like it’s an obvious thing to know, not everyone knows it.

As someone who frequently utilizes this swing for my autistic daughter please remember not every disability may be visible or noticeable at quick glance

So yes, because it was busy. it’s an inclusive swing, not an exclusive swing.

Not all disabilities are visible, my toddler has cerebral palsy but unless she’s actively walking you can’t really tell.

I’m surprised by the comments! In my opinion it’s a great teaching moment to show your children to be selfless, there’s a bunch of other things they can use on the playground so leaving that swing for someone with a disability is a kind thing to do. Where did kindness go 😭

my little ones have to wait for the infant swings if older kids are on it...jusy because its made to accommodate a specific group doesnt mean its exclusively yours

My child uses this swing because she’s to scared of the other ones but still wants to build up the confidence on using a swing

For those say it’s accessible and not exclusive, where this might be the case it is common courtesy and kindness to use something else if a child with challenges abilities needs it.. it’s just common sense. Just remember to be kind!

If it’s a public park then it’s for public use. You can also wait your turn like everyone else. The swings isn’t just meant for kids with disabilities! Some kids might feel safer on that swing that the normal swings. Also you have to take in account that not all disabilities are visible to people.

These comments really aren’t the vibe. Sure, everyone can use the swing, but when there is clearly a disabled child waiting, people should have some common courtesy.

my 3 year old has mild-low tone she cant grasp to hold on even tho physically you wouldnt be able to tell since its mostly her upper body. this can actually be more common then you would think please just ask for a turn in these situations. a lot of us parents get so locked in on our childs play we sometimes dont notice someone waiting ❤️
