Trying to peel one loose can damage those feet and badly hurt it. Hermit crabs are just as crazy because they do not grow their own shells. They have to find empty shells from other animals to protect their soft bodies, and when they outgrow one, they need to find another fast. And purple sea urchins on the Oregon coast are overpopulated for a reason. Sea otters used to help keep their numbers under control, but with that pressure gone, due to local extinction, and after sea star wasting disease took out another major predator, purple urchin numbers exploded and started wiping out kelp forests. #learning #education #animals #nature
