a war like no other - Hanson Philip and Alexander - Goldsworthy ghost on the throne - Romm I recommend these as a trilogy that takes you from the Peloponnesian War through the Diadochi. Or just start with Ghost on the throne, it reads like real life game of thrones

There is a book i heard about years ago but can't remember the name. It apparently goes into detail about the reign of Alexander the Great's father - how he built the military up, did reforms, and prepared the kingdom for what would become Alexander's reign.

The Golden Road by William Dalrymple is a really approachable introduction to the cultural and economic impact of Ancient India. You really get an idea of how interconnected the world was, even in ancient times. Great book.
