@stupidlittlegenius: The golden rule: I belongs in the middle of the word. And Y belongs at the end. If you add a suffix like -ly, -er or -ness, y is suddenly finds itself in the middle of the word and Poof! It becomes an i! But honestly, English still thinks i and y are the same! And the printing press thought þ and y were the same. I guess Y just has one of those faces! And to think, if the ancient Romans hadn’t of been showing off their puckered up upsilon, those scribes would still be lost in a sea of minims! #EduTok #linguistics #englishlanguage #etymology #alphabet

Hey, I really enjoy your videos and I’m always inspired by your enthusiasm! I’m from Myanmar, where the English curriculum is quite limited. Even up to Year 12, we mainly focus on basic grammar like active/passive voice, some informal letter and simple essays.Because of the second language standard edu, I haven’t had the chance to learn English the way it’s taught in the UK/US, things like in-depth writing any sort of literature, analyzing prose, studying Shakespeare, or developing more advanced grammar and natural sentence flow. As a result, I struggle with writing, both creative and formal, even though I genuinely love reading English books. Could you please suggest how and where I can learn English in a more immersive and structured way, similar to how you teach preferably online or with books? I'm eager to learn but I don't know where to start🩷

What about the letter 'j'? Why does the IPA use /j/ for the 'y' sound, while in English 'j' represents /d͡ʒ/?

Hmmm. Still.... if the "i" in the middle, and "y" at the end rule applies, why does y only change for cons.+y? (fly- flies, baby-babies), but not with vowel+y (toy-toys, boy-boys)
