Our first rooftop tent setup in Namibia went pretty slick. Heck, we did it in 22 seconds flat! Wink Wink. We rolled into Camp Chilala at Okonjima around 2:00, and by 3:00 we had the tents up, camp set, and were feeling pretty proud of ourselves. Not too shabby for a bunch of rooftop tent rookies. Of course, it didn't hurt one bit that our fearless leaders, Haley of Africa Eco Ventures and Angus of @African Wild Trails, were roadtripping gurus with lots of knowledge to share. Camp Chilala sits in Okonjima Nature Reserve, home of the AfriCat Foundation. Okonjima is especially known for leopard tracking, using radio collars to help locate certain leopards, so by 4:00—when it was time to head out for our afternoon game drive—we were more than ready and hoping a leopard might make an appearance. So yes, there was a little trial and error, lots of laughter, and a little figuring-it-out as we went. But with Haley and Angus leading the way, everything went smoothly, and there was something mighty satisfying about seeing camp all set up and ready to go. Next up: our first game drive.
