Yes, I have autism and ADHD and it’s absolutely a disability. I’m functioning now, but with therapy and medication and there are some things/experiences I will never do because of my autism. And that’s ok - not everything is for everyone. And there were years when my brain was just debilitating and I could not move myself forward without major help.

I am suffering i don’t go outside i dropped out of high school i have no friends the outside is so overwhelming i am also waiting for a diagnosis but I’m on a waiting list so it could be years until i get the diagnosis

I don't get why people have such unnecessary negative view of the word/concept of disability. It doesn't mean a person is totally useless? It just means they may not have capacity to do somethings... It doesn't and shouldn't erase who they're as a person capable of other things and worthy of love...

I have autism. I never told many people because my first secondary school tried to change the way I was do h was embarrassed. Then I moved and realised I wasn’t the problem.

I’m so over the “it’s not a disability, it’s a different neurotype” or “the only reason it’s considered a disability is because the world isn’t made for those brains”. Like it’s actually hard for me to identify what I physically feel. Half the time I don’t know I am hungry until I hear my stomach growl. Not to mention to be diagnosed with autism, you legitimately have to prove that it disables you. It feels very dismissive to have my very real struggles and issues be related to a personality quirk.

I consider autism as a disability.. like im 20 and still live with my mom, still trying to graduate high school, on income assistance because I cannot work (burnout makes me an unreliable employee), and I need more support than the average person... I will never be able to live a "normal" life and will likely never be able to be fully independent... i appreciate your response to this person's comment. autism can be disabling, denying such is dismissive and ignores the reality of those living with it, which does more harm than good.
