The Milky Way came first. It was created by Frank C. Mars in the United States in 1923 (or 1924, according to some reports). The Mars bar was developed later, in 1932 in England, by his son, Forrest Mars Sr., who modeled it after the already popular American Milky Way bar.

the names are different one half of the MARS family went to Europe and started their company, the other side in America started the whole thing.

i am really curious about that. i have heard UK choclate is better. we add an acid as perservative that changes the flavor... but honestly we have never really tasted the diffrence.

No they don't have anything like Boosts, Flakes, Twirls, Crunchies or anything good. Twix is about the only thing that is the same. Kit Kats aren't even the same.

A Mars bar in the US is like a Snickers but with almonds instead of peanuts. Marathon bar was a Curly Wurly but they are discontinued.

They are Candy bars in the US because they have nougat or mallow or fudge or wafer. A chocolate bar is primarily just chocolate. It can have nuts or even fruit, but it still needs to be flat and break into squares.

We (the US) used to have Mars bars that were nougat, caramel, and almonds. Apparently it was discontinued in 2002 and snickers almond sort of replaced it.
