literally just broke up with my most recent boyfriend over this exact issue! I don’t want kids, he wasn’t sure what he wanted, but leaned more towards maybe wanting them, (and at one point asked for the compromise of adopting but I still said no) so he was willing to not have kids for my sake… I loved him too much to make him sacrifice for me, so I left 😵💫

And check in regularly. People change. 10 years ago me and my partner wanted kids. now we are child free and plan on staying child free. And we still have check ins about having kids to make sure we’re on the same page.

i broke up with my partner because they wanted kids and i didn't, they told me they would compromise on the not having kids part and i said "don't do that to yourself." because they're always going to want kids if that's what they told me upfront that they wanted, and i will always not want them. neither of us would have been 100% happy being together like that.

So many people say it’s “too early to ask that question” in a new relationship, but I feel like it should be something you address very quickly so you can separate before you spend months or even years of your lives together just to separate over something they both knew but kept to themselves from day one. I said to my boyfriend something along the lines of “I know it’d be a long time from now, but it’s important, do you want kids?” And we both said no.
