@thatrvtech: RV owners, let’s talk lithium batteries for a second. The issue isn’t really the battery. It’s how people install them. You can’t just pull out a lead acid battery, drop a lithium in its place, and call it good. That’s where things start going wrong. Most of the problems you hear about aren’t lithium batteries just randomly failing. It’s things like the wrong charger still in the RV, wiring that’s too small, no proper fusing, or components that were never designed to work with lithium in the first place. Basically a half-done setup. The batteries themselves, especially LiFePO4, are actually very stable. They’re not the scary part. But they still need the right setup around them to work properly. If your RV is still set up for lead acid, it might not charge the battery correctly, it might push the wrong voltage, or it might not protect anything if something goes wrong. The biggest thing I see all the time is someone upgrades the battery and leaves everything else the same. Everything in that system works together, so when you change one part, the rest needs to match it. Bottom line, lithium is a great upgrade. I run it and I recommend it. But it’s not plug and play. Do it right and it’ll treat you well. Do it halfway and that’s when people start blaming lithium. #rv #rvtechnician #rvlife #rvdiy #rvtips #camper #campertips #rvmaintenance #rvrepair #thatrvtech #rvhelp

🤣🤣🤣 Bigger battery doesn’t mean bigger amp draw. The devices in the RV will still draw the same amount of amps. So there’s no need to upsize any of the wire any basic electrician can tell you this.

Don’t waste your money on replacing your factory converter for a lithium compatible one. I did and they don’t charge at higher rates. Just buy an Amazon one and wire it in. Save the 500-700$

Well put. Most people do not realize, more Amps, means bigger wire.

Cheap batteries may have the same BMS as the expensive ones while lot of the expensive ones are just rebranded crap. Price tag is worthless, research to internal components is key. Only thing in your system that needs to be changed is the charging. Wires size and fuses for discharge stay the same, since stuf like a fridge or inverter does not draw more current on LFP than on LA. Fun fact: a LA battery can provide more peak current than a LFP due to its BMS. Charge (voltage) setting (may) need to be adjusted in all charging equipment (solar chargers, combined inverters, grid chargers, alternator voltage) and that often means a modification in the system (like from a simple battery combiner relay to a DC-DC charger, since LFP has lower internal resistance, it can draw more amps from alternator, so that current needs to be limited by a charger).

What if you change 100amp for 100amp lithium battery do you have to replace the cable

It’s just the charger, you have to change out converter or change setting on it if it has it,

Are the smart charging system that can sense between lead acid and a lithium battery trust worthy or will it need adjustment?

They. Work fine if it doesn’t get too cold
