This is how I always feel trying Japanese treats. They always look soooooo sweet but they’re either flavorless or bitter. And people saying “idk what you expect” they literally are supposed to be flavored. If you grew up with it you’d probably taste the difference. Pink is red bean, white is plain rice, pretty sure green is tea. Ya it’s rice but it’s flavored rice. And the taste is hard for us to pick up cuz we load our food up with sugars and flavoring.

Hear me out. We can’t taste the sweetness because our cultures use sugar more, the flavour is subtle and tbh I think our tastebuds can’t do it due to how much sugar is in our food and candy, it needs to be strong for us to pick up. I think it’s fun to think about, but the kind I get in the states has stronger flavour!
