@themindfultattooist: Can you trust everything that you see in a tattoo artist's portfolio??? Yes and no. While I don't have any issue with using good lighting and CPLs to a degree, there are a lot of tricks out there that many artists use to make their tattoos POP on platforms like this and other places online. Unfortunately this gives clients an unrealistic expectation of what's possible. How do artists achieve these effects? Here are some quick demonstrations, and I didn't even go too crazy with the edits....probably because I don't do that sort of thing. TL/DR: don't believe everything you see. If there's no redness, pores or needle marks...;) #rosesandrivets805 #tattooartist
My tattoo artist posted real pics, except I had hom airbrush out the stretch marks on either side, not gonna lie lol

i have a question! is it normal to be up charged for twitches/shakiness? i have a great pain tolerance (in my personal opinion). however, i consistently shake and twitch if im not actively focused on something (like playing an instrument or driving). i know this is difficult for a lot of artists, understandably so, but i quite literally cannot control it, and thinking about it makes it 10x worse. i try really hard not to think about the sensory input and just relax, but it doesn’t really work as the twitching is completely involuntary and happens everywhere in my life (ie sleeping). on my most recent tattoo i was suggested to use numbing cream to reduce the sensations and reduce the twitching for easier tattooing, and my tattoo was 50$ more than the agreed upon price. is this normal? is there any way to mitigate this? i love tattoos and have a few but this really discouraged me.

my most recent tattoo, 2 large sunflowers, is a little over a week old, and my artist said the colors will be more vibrant once fully healed. i'd never heard that before.

I don’t think editing the skin is dishonest, that was a large amount of very visible pours. Editing them away is like saying “and this is what it could look like on you”

My artist posted a video of my most recent tattoo that was taken right after we finished. It was very red because I had forgotten and taken a Meloxicam about 10 hours before the session. He posted the tattoo completely unfiltered. I was extremely self conscious due to own body issues yet I wentfor it. The video was a honest representation and I love that about him.
