I feel like the idea that people should just always know better is inherently ableist. Obviously if someone knows better then its not cool but if they genuinely didn’t understand and they apologize and stop it immediately then theyre not a bad person.

*Unless it’s obviously malicious* for example “joking” or making back handed comments about another’s trauma. Or racist comments. And even if it’s not malicious, everyone needs to learn not to make rude comments. I know it seems obvious to good people but bad people tend to gasp at straws to excuse their crappy behavior.

I think it honestly depends on what you did. If you did something that no one could ever think about besides it being cruel and wrong and you only apologize once you start getting backlash and losing followers then that’s what they mean. Like the cakes by katie situation
