We had HBO and Cinemax. Before my folks got cable, we could pick up our next door neighbors' cable channels via antenna. We'd get snowy reception of Cinemax on Ch. 2, and whatever they were channel surfing on Chs. 3 & 4. Not sure how that all worked, lol.

Unfortunately, lived off antenna television , but my girlfriends parents had premium cable! Multiple reasons to hang out at her house 😂

Remember when HBO was free for three days? If you unhooked your cable box on the last day, it would stay on for some extra time until they realized it was still playing.

I was better than this growing up. We had a satellite dish. And as long as I could align to Telstar 301 or Galaxy 7, or any of 12 other satelittes, I could get HBO East, HBO west, Showtime, (my folks even watched Playboy) sports feeds from around the globe. Prior to 83ish, nothing was scrambled, nothing!

Even in the 2010s i lived for the free preview weekends for the premium channels my family's directv package didn't have - nicktoons, the hub/discovery family, boomerang, hell I'd be watching sprout even though i was like nine just because it was a limited thing. my parents eventually bought HBO for got but never the others but then they switched cable providers and we get all those channels now even though I don't even watch tv and my parents only really watch fox news

My parents could afford premium cable but my mother absolutely refused to get it so when I slept over my friends’ houses who had that and Captain Crunch, it felt like a holiday My mom was/is an early almond mom prototype se the sweetest thing we’d get was Raisin Bran.

It was the summer of 1985 that I really thought life couldn’t get any better we got an air conditioner, a VCR, and a remote control cable box no more wired box where the buttons pop up and down when you press a different one

I grew up in a cult that did not allow movies, cable tv or even tv ownership. 😂🤣 I did not get any type of TV or cable service until 2015 when I was twenty-seven years old. I still own the smart tv I bought back then and got Dish Network cable service to my RV that I was living in since I was still working as a Field Engineer in the oil and gas industry and was never home, so RV life was ideal. I have been HOOKED ever since then.
