A walk is as good as a hit provided: the hit is a single, there are no unoccupied bases behind the lead runner, and all runners move up 1 base. That might be maybe 10% of all hits, probably less.

A walk also forces a minimum of 4 pitches from the pitcher, often more. That’s significant in overall game strategy since pitchers only have so many pitches they can throw per day.

As much as he’s getting dragged for not having the offense, his OPS is still almost .900 with a .270 avg. Most players would love to have that line. Plus of course his pitching line is crazy so far

A walk is not as good as a hit. Even a single can advance a base runner two bases. Plus, just putting the ball in play creates the opportunity for things to happen. A walk, is not as good as a hit.

Yeah baseball is nuanced. not all hits are equal and not all times on base are equal. this is part of what makes baseball great is it's open to debate.

A walk has just as much to do with the pitcher not pitching in the strike zone as it does the hitter nut swinging at those pitches.

That is because when you walk that just means someone else didn’t do their job but when you get a hit that is because you did your job.
