@englishwithrhys: "Very" is usually an adverb used to intensify an adjective (“It is very hot”, “I am very tired”) but it can also function as an adjective itself. When used this way, it means "exact", "actual", or "particular". Instead of saying, "That is the exact car I want", a native speaker might say "That is the very car I want". It emphasises the identity of the object. It tells us that I don’t want any other car. Look out for these phrases in books and films: “At the very beginning”, “the very next day”, and “the very thought of it”. Let’s put this into practice. Can you write a sentence in the comments using "very" as an adjective to mean "exact"? I will be reading through and giving feedback. I look forward to seeing your examples. #EnglishTeacher #AdvancedEnglish #GrammarTips #LanguageLearning #Linguistics
