I’m rereading wind and truth, and this time through the part where Kal says goodbye to Shallan and Adolin before leaving for Shinovar felt to me less like a promise between Kaladin and Shallan that and more like a promos from Brandon to the readers. The phrasing of it, Kaladin promised the three of them would get drinks together, joke, and be happy, not “when he got back from Shinovar” but “at the end.” We’ve still got a long way to go until the end but I remain optimistic (and hopefully not delusional)
