Horses who are down; for what ever reason are getting soft bedding to make sure no dirt goes into the face and eyes and no injuries are happening while being down. Shadow is very important for them. She couldn’t stand. When we found Destiny, she was down in the dirt. Legs splayed, head heavy, too weak to even lift it. That’s what neglect does. It steals everything until the body just gives up. But Destiny is not giving up today. With help from Save Horse Sanctuary, she got her first round of treatment. Fluids to fight dehydration. Pain meds to ease the ache in her joints. Warm mash to remind her stomach what food feels like. A blanket to keep her core temperature up while her body remembers how to fight. She’s still down, but her eyes are different now. They track us when we walk in. Her ears flick when we say her name. She drank on her own this morning. Small things, but in rescue, small things are everything. Recovery isn’t fast. It’s messy. It’s hours of turning her so she doesn’t get bed sores. It’s refeeding protocols so we don’t shock her system. It’s vet checks, blood work, and holding your breath every time you enter the stall. Destiny didn’t deserve to end up like this. No horse does. But she deserves every ounce of effort we’re giving her now. Our goal is to raise $600 to cover Destiny’s next week of critical care: IV fluids, medications, lab work, and the specialized refeeding program she needs to get back on her feet. She’s down, but she’s not done. Not if we can help it. Please donate to Destiny’s recovery fund through Save Horse Sanctuary. Every dollar keeps her treatment going and shows her she’s worth fighting for. Link in bio.
