Dean Lennox :
Statins don’t meaningfully “drain” brain cholesterol. The brain makes its own and tightly regulates it. Even lipophilic statins like Atorvastatin have only minor effects, while hydrophilic ones like Rosuvastatin barely enter the brain at all.

Why bother stating all these theoretical mechanisms, if there are no effects observed? You can do that with any drug. Just because a mechanism makes sense doesn’t mean that it’s happening.

As a primary care provider, I want to thank you for this post! I have had great difficulty over the past several months, trying to quash the anecdotal information regarding statin therapy and cognitive problems! Thank you so much!!!!!

Decent video , would say you could have prefaced it by saying the studies show xyz instead of listing a bunch of random mechanisms. Studies show no significsnt link which is the important part in establishing causality. Lipophyliic vs hydrophilic statins data is mixed as once in steady state they are both in brain btw. Also Vit D is synthesised by skin cells and most cells make enough cholesterol on their own and statins don’t meaningfully deplete it and have yet to see any evidence of statins reducing hormone synthesis or Vit D synthesis at all. A mechanism is only as good as human outcome data , if data shows vitamin D deficiency not a statistically significant side effect then some random mechanism is irrelevant!!

I do get muscle leg pain. yes I have all those symptoms. but if I don't take my atorvastatin + respata, my cholesterol sticks into my arteries - stenosis. I have hyperlipidemia so I'm an extreme case. I take coq10. and my vitamin d is low. I have to take a weekly D3 10000 pill.

no impact on cognition, but i do take co- enzyme Q10 and Vitamin D as a supplement. LDL dropped by 50% on statin
