i WISH there was someone to yell at me to stop because it’s had such terrible effects on my overall health

yeah no someone should have stopped me. I do think that if you are physically able you shoukd be able to practice and hang out with the team cause that sense of community is really important for mental health, but I should not have been competing

Middle school coach here it’s definitely a thing I keep an eye out for constantly. Health and nutrition are always a strong reinforced topic throughout the season.

one of the main reasons why I stopped doing track because that would have mean I would have to get better and be "normal"

i love this and agree it’s harmful to young runner’s health however, i think it’s tough when some coaches only look at the pr’s and not the condition they are in, glad u continue to share ur thoughts:))

i 1000% agree i had a bad ed in hs and while being a d1 college athlete. was 19 only 72 pounds, never hit puberty yet, stress fracture, yet no one stopped me till i finally quit myself bc i knew i couldn’t handle or do it no more…

i definitely agree but also i started running while i was in recovery and still not really which helped me recover farther at this point bc it helped me see food in a different way. i think that exercise and activities like running can be very helpful for a lot of people with eating disorders, like myself, to motivate them to eat more and see that foods purpose is to fuel them and not to be taken away. obviously it’s a big problem among this community that it can put them that same mindset i used it to get out of though which is really hard to see

As someone who has struggled with eating for around 2 years now and trying to recover I agree and disagree. I got a stress fracture this past season and couldn’t compete all of track, now my ed may have had some affects on that injury but I got depressed during that time due to not being able to do anything. My sports 1000% help my mental health, and doing them has helped me with my recovery. So yes if you’re getting constant injuries due to your ed or doing too much volume to loose weight your coaches should take note of it and possibly not let you compete, but at the same time I feel like it could make some people worse/relapse if they were taken out
