The book is old enough that it's now in the public domain. Wikipedia is hosting a PDF version of it.

In regards to the childrens age. When using the term "boy" back in those days. They usually refer to age 12-16. Most scout activities (which are similar to the book) are per the program from 10-16.

I need you to understand they absolutely were doing that. My grandfather and his friends took apart a friends car and rebuilt it on the roof in one afternoon… for fun. He had a whole garage of things like that. Phone booths, boats, etc. They didn’t have tv or internet. So imagination was the main source of entertainment.

You could totally build a boat. In fact you could make it a tiktok series. That would actually be awesome

Any kid that would make those things instead of playing video games, would be the coolest kid on the block

I grew up in the 70s with the Childcraft series of books. They were more elementary and middle school age ideas, whereas your book looks more like middle and high school age projects. I had friends who built their own kayaks in high school, and I personally would have taken on some of the projects in your book if I’d have had the supplies for them. We did make lots of forts and tree houses, and dug giant holes and built makeshift bridges to cross the creek. And boy scouts were organized and had adults to help, so they took on even bigger projects. When you had a group of friends and all summer long with no electronic distractions, those were the kind of things you did! PS: I would like to see the other stuff in the book! 🙏🏼❤️😁

this is great. when I was a kid I attended every summer school gardens, were we were thought to grow vegetables in our own plot and in the last week's after harvest we would be allowed to build backyard shacks out of donated wood, we would paint them and decorate and in the end we had a real village. it was the best.

These are great! Maybe just pick one or two and give them a try. You are probably more capable of any or all of these than you think. 🙂

they were definitely doing that in 1929. Get rid of your phone and television and you'll be building a canvas boat in a month.

they were not doing it in 1929? But they did. It's not for kids. People actually did this (boats especially) my Grand pa (born 1895) built boats that work today. Beautiful thing. What else could you do then? There was a radio show in the evening. That was it. My father (born 1929) showed me many "projects" you could not get today for lots of money. Also, great to spend time with your kids.
