I love mother animals, like seeing the natural maternal instinct is so beautiful😭 especially knowing the sacrifices my mom made for me😭

I hadn’t realized how much my horse really trusted me until she turned into this with anyone besides me and my family after she had her baby. Not to mention she wouldn’t lay down until one of us was in the stall with her during her birth. She was an excellent mom.

I've always wanted to watch a documentary that went into wild horse herd dynamics but I've never found a very good one

“Prey” animals are terrifying when it comes to protecting them and their families, horse kicks have a higher PSI than getting hit by a steam train

for the ones that dont get it,the mare is protecting her foal because a stallion will try to kill the foal that is not apart of his herd to get the mare into heat sooner so he can impregnate her with his own offspring and secure his lineage through her. it may seem cruel to humans but to them its survival and removing the foal removes future competition for the leader of the herd, and im pretty sure even if he manages to impregnate her when the foal grows up he'll chase the colt out of the herd because if the colt manages to grow stronger he'll most likely challange the leader of the herd and replace him. a herd of wild horses are mostly foals, mares and the dominant stallion, sometimes along a few subordinate males (correct me if im wrong!). but mostly colts leave the herd by themselves unless theyre actively challanging the leadership of the herd and infanticide between wild horses isnt very common.

Also the fact that they instantly turn around knowing that thier hind legs are stronger so that they can protect them more efficiently is such a good study point of evolution aweee

In fifth grade I write a mini story based off of this and I wrote it in first person and my teacher used it for references in future lessons as I grew up and now graduated, this event held power and great strength
