@a_man_from_watamu: Gedi Ruins, the Lost city. I went to Gede Boys, throughout my four years there I come across this article. Long ago, Gedi was a rich and powerful Swahili town hidden within the forest. It had stone houses, mosques, running water, and deep wells far ahead of its time. Trade flowed in from Arabia, India, and beyond. Life was good. But with wealth came pride. The people of Gedi were said to have become arrogant and disrespectful toward outsiders, toward the poor, and even toward the unseen spiritual world. Elders warned them to change their ways, but the warnings were ignored. Then strange things began to happen. Water in the wells started to disappear mysteriously. Crops failed. At night, people whispered of shadows moving through the streets, voices in the forest, and unseen presences watching them. Some said the spirits often believed to be jinn had been angered. One night, a respected elder or holy man (in some versions, a visiting sheikh) warned the town: “Leave this place, or it will be taken from you.” Again, many did not listen. Then came the final sign. A great fear fell over Gedi some say a curse, others say a spiritual invasion. The wells, which were the lifeline of the town, either dried up completely or became “occupied” by spirits. Without water, survival became impossible. In a single night or over a short period the people fled. They left behind everything: houses, utensils, even personal belongings. No one returned to reclaim the city. After that, the forest slowly swallowed Gedi. But the story doesn’t end there. Locals say the ruins are still inhabited not by humans, but by spirits. Some believe: * The wells are entrances to another realm * The inner parts of the ruins are protected by unseen forces * Anyone who enters without respect may experience strange occurrences Even today, some people avoid staying there after dark.
