@drdrewprovan: A ferritin of 14 is associated with fatigue and many other symptoms. At last the guidelines are being amended with a lower level of 30. This is a welcome change! #hematology #ferritin #anaemia #irondeficiency #fyp
30 is not enough. I’ve never felt well at 30. Minimal optimum levels are recognised to be 70.

6. I’m at 6. Finding it hard to function, even on iron tablets (for the last 5 months) I’m not absorbing it. What do I do please?

Mine was 5. FIVE. I’m 30 with 2 young kids, literally dragging through the day. I’ve been iron tablets for 3 months and I’m at 11 now. Still don’t feel great 😐

NHS have changed there’s to 11. If it’s above 11 it’s fine apparently. I’m at 14 and I can’t cope. 2. Different iron tablets tried. No change.

Mine is 8. I’ve been asking for iron infusions because I’m just not handling the supplements and I’ve been taking them for at least 6 months. Makes me feel like I’m not absorbing any

I was 6, 6 months ago and now I’m 11. Constantly trying prescription iron tablets all of which upset my tummy or constipate me. There must be more options out there?

I did read NICE Guidelines say - * Ferritin levels are increased independently of iron status in acute and chronic inflammatory conditions, malignant disease, and liver disease.
* Expert opinion varies as to the level of ferritin that is diagnostic of iron deficiency anaemia in people with chronic inflammation — people with a ferritin concentration of 50 micrograms/L or higher could still be iron deficient.
