Sheared pin. This is almost as common as blown 2.4 Kia engines. 😂😂😂

Honestly, I’ve done enough of these to the point where if I get that P0017 code, first thing I do is just rip off the valve cover and check if the cam moves independently of the gear 😭 Had one that was so badly out of time on a Seltos, I was actually worried it bent valves (it was like 90° off iirc) Fired right up somehow. Also make sure you reset adaptive values otherwise that code will come back after a few starts

I always dump some Lucas oil on the cam and chain as an assembly lube so it doesn’t dry start

In my case of doing one of these during a roadtest id have no codes but as soon as id stop or hit a red light it would throw a p0017 used air blower and watched the cam move independently of the phaser basically that verified the pin being sheared

Nice. As someone who also wants to start using scopes I really enjoyed that video. I learnt a couple of things. Good job.

I am having this issue in a 2018 Elantra. I have changed EVERYTHING in my lady’s car. Code is still there, vvt solenoids, sensors, chain, tensioner. All of it. Idk what else to do. Exhaust cam isn’t reading anything on live data. Any suggestions would help. Thanks!
