@dr.prasanthi: No white cast zinc oxide mineral sunscreen for melanin rich skin is not possible. It’s a chemistry and physics issue, you cannot argue with science. Zinc oxide particles need to be in sunscreen formulations at specific concentrations to achieve appropriate SPF & UVA protection. Even nano zinc oxide (which is not ideal for skin of colour anyway as it does not protect appropriately the long wavelength UVA range), eventually clumps together and creates larger particles. These particles interact with visible light and a phenomenon known as Mie Scattering occurs, visible light of all colours is scattered equally causing white light to refract back off and out to the eye. On melanin rich skin, the contrast between white and dark is more pronounced owing to lower luminance of melanin rich skin because melanin itself is interacting with light. In subsequent videos I explain how white cast can be attenuated but never fully resolved with some formulation elegance, and a cosmetic chemist whose PhD has possibly developed an innovative solution to prevent mie scattering to improve cosmetic elegance for skin of colour.
