I came across one of these on my ancestry, it was in English but it's pretty cool. My 3rd great grandfather was from gorumna, it says he spoke "Irish" and he was a fisherman. It also said him and his wife couldn't read or write.

We found out our great grandparents were Irish speakers (rural mayo) and my sons are about to enter Gaelscoil. 100 years later we’ve returned our family to the language.

People also answered as Gaeilge in the 1901/1911 censuses as well.

What is all the green writing all over everything? Anything I’ve seen has it on it and just ruins it! So glad I found my family on there it’s so lovely to see.

My great grandfather and their family kept changing between English and Irish and then older Irish spellings so it’s so hard to track their names 😂 all spoke Irish at home in Kerry!

Is Gaedhilg an older spelling of Gaeilge, or is it Ulster-specific?
