@philippinestar: Engineer-content creator Slater Young released a video statement on Sunday night, months after the devastation of Typhoon Tino, following the release of findings on the Monterrazas project, saying he chose to speak only after the studies and investigations were completed. Young gave condolences to families affected by the typhoon and said the tragedy deserves real answers based on facts, not speculation or misinformation. He said their family wanted to respond to the accusations before, but decided to stay quiet and let the proper investigation happen first. Citing the independent study by the University of the Philippines, Young said Monterrazas did not cause or worsen the flooding, adding that the main reason was the heavy rainfall brought by the typhoon. “The science does not just say we did not cause the flooding, it says that the systems we have built in place helped reduce it,” Young said. He added that the project’s detention ponds held back up to 99.74 percent of excess rainwater and released it slowly. | via Andrew Ortoño/The Freeman #philippinestar #newsph #slateryoung #monterazzascebu #cebu

Present studies as you want but building houses by cutting portions of the mountain and huge masses of trees will still contribute to the flooding. COMMON SENSE.

Misplaced kasi galit ng ibang tao. Yung kakulangan nila sa pagpili ng mga tamang lider ay pinoproject nila sa isang developer na backed up ng studies ang mga ginagawa.

The monterazzas may not have 100% caused the flooding, but projects like them, projects sharing the same methodologies and areas eventually caused it. Not monterazzas alone, but projects like monterazzas collectively.

The point is, they cut down trees that are supposed to protect us from calamities.

This study should not be treated as “fact” that Monterrazas did not cause flooding. While it presents modeled results suggesting little to no impact, it does not disclose its methodology, including what model was used, what assumptions were made, or how the results were validated against real-world flood data. Without that, the findings cannot be independently verified or replicated.

Not all research papers are solid. Yes even if it's from UP. Ilang years na data ang needed para masabing reliable and hindi bias ang result. Give us the facts. Give us the source of data. Let others test your data too. And most importantly, maglabas sya ng statement kapag may next 10 na bagyo sa cebu, tapos same result pa rin ang lumabas.

For me no matter how advanced the design is, it cannot fully replace what a forest does stabilizing soil, reducing erosion, and naturally controlling water flow.
This is not just about compliance or aesthetics. It’s about long-term impact. When you alter a mountain, you’re not just building on it you’re changing how it behaves, and the consequences are often felt by communities below. for me? the real question is if there are other options, why put the project on a hillside in the first place? I’m on Team Slater. I’ve been following their podcast for a long time. From the way Slater and Kryz speak and give advice, I genuinely feel their sincerity and integrity. I don’t believe they would ever take advantage of others for personal gain. I hope people try to understand them instead of blaming them. At the end of the day, the real issue lies with the government’s lack of preparedness and corruption during the calamity.🙏🏻
