@chat_n_chops: Let’s learn about picky eaters, and what’s really going on. Why children don’t like to try new food. Let’s talk about it. Let’s figure it out and let’s fix it. #chefmoe #food #homecooking #cheflife #Foodie
I had "no thank you bites" with my kids. They at least had to try it before they made up their mind.

There is something called arfid. Do you believe this exists? Cause I have a form of it and my daughter does too. My son, eats everything just like his dad, same likes and dislikes. My daughter is just like me, eats the same 3-5 foods and absolutely won’t touch anything else. I’m the same. 🥺 I did my very best to have both my kids avoid my awful eating but I truly believe it’s hereditary. It was actually quite astounding to watch it unfold. The other interesting part, my son who eats everything now, was picky at a very very young age. My daughter who is very picky now, was actually very adventurous and loved eating very early on.

When my daughters were in that picky. In their life, I would make them cook with me, making them wash their hands and then putting black olives on their fingertips and holding their hands up until I was ready for the black olives every now and again I would just eat one right off of their fingers and then eventually they would try it themselves and they would see me putting the black olives, chopped up in the dish, and eventually their curiosity was peaked, and they would begin to eat the dish. I would use this method for a variety of different dishes, incorporating their hands and me eating the item from their fingers or having them pass it to me and I would just take a random bite my younger daughter became amazingly attracted to broccoli which repulsed her older sister. Eventually, the curiosity took over and the older daughter began to eat the broccoli.

My daughter refused to try spinach. I insisted. She threw up at the table. Lesson learned! 🤦♀️🤷♀️

My son’s pediatric doctor said feed greens first then orange and then white and yellow baby food. My son would eat anything! Don’t give sweets first!

There’s another thing. It’s control. A 3 year old has so little control over their life. Let them have many reasonable choices. If you want them to try, go to a farmers market and let them pick the eggplant. Bread it and fry it with their help. They’ll eat it decide they like eggplant.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻thanks for bringing this up. My 7 year old is picky. I think it’s reasonable for him to choose if he likes something. I don’t eat what I don’t like. He shouldn’t have to either.

My son is a picky eater. It’s how it’s presented sometimes to them. For instance he wouldn’t eat chicken Parmesan until we called it spaghetti chicken nuggets. Now it’s one of his favorite meals

I'm extremely picky. Cheese pulls make me gag. I don't force anything

Coming from a very picky adult. And I hate that I'm picky, but as a child I was forced to sit at the table for hours until I ate the dinner in front of me. Dinner was the most stressful time of day for me growing up. Now I can't/wont try different foods even when they look delicious. I only have a small amount of things I will actually eat and it drives me crazy. I have raised my kids the opposite. We encourage the one bite rule, if they don't like it, fine... we try again at another date. Now I have 2 not-picky eaters and hopefully our youngest will get there soon!

As a baby my daughter would eat everything but once she turned 2 she became VERY picky. My mom (old school) would comment on it all the time but I feed her what she wants to eat. She eats all fruit especially berries, olives, cheese, plain pasta, fried fish and chicken, yogurt and plain white rice.

My niece and nephew may or may not try what I cook. I keep fresh bread and pb&j on hand in case they don’t eat it. Fed is best. 💜💯

my mom had one rule about food and I've adopted the same rule. my only requirement at dinner time is you have to try it. if you dont like it, you don't have to eat it, but we have to try it.

2 things I did... the 1st was to let my kids participate in the preparation (age appropriate of course) & the 2nd was - if they were hesitant- I would make something for myself & not them (because they always want what u have 😂) & then it's their idea to try it; & once they got older - they had to at least try it (once every 6 months because taste buds change) & if they still didn't like it - they weren't forced to eat it

yep. the only thing was you had to try 3 bites (they could be tiny) and they could have whatever else they wanted...
if they didnt like peppers I would either make thiers without if I could, or they could pick them out. same with tomatoes. they are older and the only thing and are more exploratice with food than I am.
we didnt do much fast food or prepared foods. mostly homemade.
