Duffton Taylor aka Don Taylor is the artist of the day ( 17/05/2026 ). Born in Clarendon, Jamaica, reggae singer-songwriter Don Taylor developed a deep passion for music from an early age. Raised in a musical family, he was inspired by his father, who was also a singer, while his older brother performed with the group Names & Faces. During his youth, Taylor sharpened his vocal abilities around seasoned Jamaican harmony groups such as The Clarendonians, and also shared family connections with reggae icon Freddy McGregor. These early influences helped shape the soulful and emotional singing style that later became his trademark. In 1967, Don Taylor moved to Kingston, Jamaica’s musical capital, where his journey in the reggae industry truly began. There he crossed paths with legendary producer Duke Reid, one of the most important figures in Jamaican music history. Under Reid’s guidance, Taylor started recording professionally and gradually built a name for himself during the golden era of reggae music. Among his recordings, the song “Feel The Vibration” became his most celebrated work, earning lasting recognition among roots reggae lovers, especially in São Luís, a city famously known for its strong reggae culture and deep appreciation for Jamaican music. Don Taylor also gained attention through the song “Never Ending Love,” recorded alongside Bahamian singer Smookey 007 and produced by Duke Reid. The record found success not only in Jamaica, but also in the Bahamas, England, and several parts of the Caribbean, helping to expand Taylor’s reputation beyond his homeland. Over the years he continued recording songs such as “Zapoo,” “Sad Sad Song,” and “True Love,” maintaining his presence among reggae collectors and lovers of authentic Jamaican music. During the 1990s, Taylor returned with songs like “Trap In The Rain,” which reportedly received strong airplay on Irie FM in Jamaica. He later re-recorded “Feel The Vibration” and continued releasing music independently through his own company and label, T Bess, while residing in New York. Sadly, Don Taylor passed away in New Jersey on May 31, 2018. Though not heavily documented in mainstream reggae history books, he remains respected among reggae enthusiasts for his smooth vocals, heartfelt recordings, and lasting contribution to classic roots reggae and lovers rock music.
