I was visiting my mom and she’s very sleepy now. To me, I see a decline. She’s in a new chair. Take a look. It’s nice because it tilts in space. It’s more comfortable. Today, when I came in, I gently nudged her and she opened her eyes slightly. I seized the moment while her eyes were open. I signed to her, ‘I’m your baby.’ Her eyes widened and she signed as clear as day and it was the first time she signed this clearly in ages. She signed, ‘Still. Still.’ She signed it with two hands. She signed. ‘Still.’ I was completely taken aback. This one simple thing was so unexpected and I was like. “WOW!” Then she fell right back to sleep. Fascinating. On Monday (tomorrow), Hospice will come in to do an assessment to see if she qualifies. I’ll explain more later. It doesn’t necessarily mean we are at the end of the- it just means we are preparing for additional supports. More updates coming soon.
