The debate over the minimum wage should be about raising it continually, but keeping it below the margins that would more than meaningfully impact job growth and inflation. Because raising it on the margins has a minimal negative it should be implemented to help those most in need, but we shouldn’t pretend there aren’t extreme risks in setting price controls of any degree

the way every argument could dismantled by that one point. It’s gonna happen anyways. they’re gonna raise prices anyways, they’re gonna try to replace human anyways, people are losing jobs anyways. It’s currently happening and the minimum wage is still $7.25

Marx has an essential book that debunks all of these and changed my perspective on the minimum wage

COL is so variable from city to city, I much prefer it being handled at the mayoral level. +2 for Mamdani

You’re right, increasing the minimum wage decreases inequality which then drives economic development.

Profit is stolen wages. The best example of this is Costco vs Sam’s club. Costco's CEO makes $950,000 and pays workers $29/hour with full benefits. Sam's Club CEO makes $25 million and pays $15/hour with minimal coverage. Costco has a 6% turn over rate, while Sam’s Club has 44%. They both sell the same products for relatively the same cost, but one has far better employee and customer satisfaction. This is literally why life is so different between our parents/grandparents generation vs ours because they experienced the Costco life with their career by having a livable wage and employers caring about employees over stock options. I recommend looking into the old CEO of CEO, Jack Welch, who, like Reagan, did irredeemable harm to the American middle class.

Any government benefit given to someone who’s on minimum wage is corporate welfare because the corporation doesn’t have a sustainable business without the government program

The government should be paying its citizens a monthly dividend. Wages clearly are not keeping up with the cost of living. Business 101 is to maximize profit while minimizing expenses and workers inevitably end up in the expense category. UBI offers a way to rebalance the system by giving everyone a stable floor of income while making the economy fairer and more sustainable for everyone.
