Thanks for showing this side of recovery. I am a candidate for the same surgery and I keep changing my mind on getting the surgery or not 😭

I am so sorry. I feel this 💯 I'm close to 2 years MPFL reconstruction and still struggle with stairs, instability and unlevel surfaces. No one prepared us for the mental struggles with this. You've got this!

Girllll, this whole healing process is really no joke. I hate it, I do hope you getting the screws out makes it better. I’m about 9 1/2 post op & i’m still not even where I should be. My pt let me go too soon, I ended up having to go back again. Now we have to focus on both legs 🫩. I’ve never thought about getting the screws removed. It’s so interesting to see the difference in everyone’s healing process though. I wish the best for you.

This is a little disheartening. I had MPFL reconstruction and I’m 10 weeks post op. No pain but I’m experiencing A LOT of stiffness. I’m praying your pain will go away once screws get removed for you. Knee surgery is not easy!

I’ve gained weight, I can’t run (not that I did before much at all), I have to think about “oh, can I do that with my knee?” I feel better pain-wise than I did pre-surgery, but it’s just mentally draining. Started walking today and felt a sharp pain in my shin…thinking screws 😩 I feel you, girl!!!

I did MPFL+TTO the first time in December 2022. Don’t really struggle with that knee. My left knee is another story. Had the same surgery march 2025. It was successful and rehab was going well, but from June-February I felt some pain everyday. Painlevel was at a 4-5 at the worst maybe. Insisted that I wanted to have a reevaluation of maybe taking out the screws because I thought they were causing the pain. Took an X-ray and found out that I had broken one of the screws and that the bone piece wasn’t healed right. Surgeon said I shouldn’t be able to straighten out my knee or even walk, but I’ve been jumping and training pretty heavy 😂 now I’m 5 weeks post op a new tto and I’m not allowed to walk or bend the knee for 7 weeks. With my luck in life I almost had a fall 1 week post op which ended up in me breaking another piece of the bone which was connected to the patellar tendon. This potentially means another huge surgery if it doesn’t heal as it should. I just know life forward is going to be really constricted mentally and possibly physically aswell. I over it😩

Hey, I'm not doing well either. I had the same surgery 26 weeks ago (tibial tubercle transfer with medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction). I should mention that I’ll likely have the same operation on my other knee this summer. Soon I’ll have the screws removed, but for now I can’t bend my knee more than 120 degrees. I’m not sure if that’s because of the screws. I still have pain in the MPFL area, and going up stairs is okay, but going down is harder. But realizing you’re not alone with this makes it a bit easier. Otherwise it would feel pretty discouraging - sometimes you start to think you’re the only one going through this 🙄
