They make impacted rated taps in case you were wondering and yes you can tap holes with them as well I’ve done it plenty of times

I'm the dumbass that used a tap with an impact. Was trying to chase a thread on a rock saw, when I went to use my fingers the tap wouldn't go in at all so I tried an impact and on further inspection found out that my tap was wrong and ended up having to drill out the old threads and upsize the hole.

Did you try an thread chaser instead of a tap? Much easier to start and would probably clean out the powder coat without cutting new threads.

Upsized a sump plug by 1mm bc it was stripped. Now it needs 2 types of o ring, a crush washer and thread tape to seal

I am a dumbass a few times over. Crisco is also a great alternative for tap magic. It sticks on parts so at an odd angle you aren’t spilling it everywhere.

form taps are wicked. I love them so much. no cutting at all. they use heat and pressure to literally form the threads, and are significantly stronger.

i snapped a bolt off in the hub of a garbage truck drilled it and tried to pull it with an extractor just for that to snap too… it got a new hub after that

Boss bought a fancy pneumatic tapping arm for a few grand and it ended up snapping a 5/8 tap in a 40x30 sheet of 3/4 aluminum 😂
