@paoloibanezmedina: I’m not a self-hosting expert I’m a recent IT grad learning in public but while learning more about Linux, homelabs, servers, Docker, and self-hosting, these are some apps I keep seeing over and over. What I like about them is that each one feels useful in a different way: - Nextcloud = private cloud storage - Tailscale = safer remote access - Pi-hole = network-wide ad blocking - Vaultwarden = password manager - Jellyfin = media server I feel like this is one of the fastest ways to start understanding what a homelab can actually do. If you had to pick only one, which one would you actually use first? Comment your pick and tell me why! #Tech #techtok #technology

1) bloated buggy annoying af rather use owncload 2) rather use a wireguard server don't like relying on a 3rd part for remote access 3) adguard instead of pihole should've made the switch sooner 4) add immich for photos

I have jellyfin (1.2k scanned movies and 150ish shows atm), adguard, homeassist, immich, zwave, scrutiny, grafana, glances, uptime kuma, omada wifi controller, homepage, caddy, navidrome, calibre-web, audiobookshelf, audiobookshelf request, qbittorrent with an *arr stack, wired into a proton VPN setup /w a glutun killswitch. And tailscale for remote access plus kiwix hosting a bunch of offline wikis

Question: Does Pi-Hole block YouTube ads as well, or solely website ads?

Is there anything else out there other than home media server, Google Drive replacement, pi-hole, tailscale, and VMs? Everything I come across, seems to be these core things and want to expand beyond them!

is there anything for hosting your own music that you can stream to your phone as if it were like Spotify? I'd love to stop paying a mega corporation that doesn't even par artists when I could actually be buying music with the amount I spend

You need sonarr, radarr and seerr too, I use transmission but loads of people recommend QBitTorrent. I just had issues with my ports so couldn’t be bothered to fix it.

I agree for the most part but a password manager is never something you should self host. That and email are the 2 things I won't do myself.

Its possible to use all of these at the same time, correct? Im not familiar with Server OS, I assume it would all be CLI and no GUI? Can you get a Server OS with a GUI or are you just suppose to use the application GUI?

this may be a hot take, but i dont believe convincing people learning and practicing home labs should use a password manager on a system that they could potentially have security flaws for mismanagment

Vaultwarden-password keeper and you can use in a chrome extension/phone app, watchtower-keeps all your containers updated, immich- nice for offloading photos instead of taking up phone storage, navidrome-for music library, the arrs(sonarr, radarr, lidarr)-media download stations, sabnzbd-download client for usenet, glutun w/ qBitTorrent- download client with trackers(highly suggest pia as a vpn service), aurral- think seerr but for music, seerr- nice front for sonarr and radarr to request from, audio bookshelf, requesterr - sends request data in nice format from users of seerr to a discord chat, Tautulli (if you have plex) - keeps track of playback history of your media libraries, tdarr - condenses tv and movie files to h.265 codec to save on file space, plex - media platform however jellyfin is another(requires more setup and complex configuration), portainer - nice landing page to manage all of your containers, homarr - think splash page of all your web apps as a dashboard (a grafana container allows you to create graphical data to put in homarr), nginx(or npm)- allows you to use a purchased domain name (I suggest cloudflare) to allow out of network access to your container web apps, invidious- a youtube app to watch YouTube without ads, prowlarr - manage indexers/trackers for qbit and sabnzbd, Postgres- db app to have a better database for some of your containers (my suggestion: if it can use postgres, save yourself the headache early and migrate anything that has SQLite as a db), adminer/pgadmin - admin portal to view/ manage databases in Postgres container, filebrowser - instead of having to cd around or use bash commands to view files it allows you to set a root directory and view/edit all files from a nice web app. Have fun home-labing and god speed brother🤌🤌
