@emileesegura: as a deaf mom with a cochlear implant I use both ASL and spoken English with my son who is a CODA (child of deaf adult) Sometimes I use just my voice, other times I use just ASL, and sometimes I use simcom (simultaneous communication - signing and talking at the same time) SimCom can be frowned upon in the Deaf community which is valid, it’s really hard to sign accurately when talking, however that’s what I grew up with and I feel very comfortable with it! Because I have access to speech with my cochlear implant, I love talking! Simcom allows me to access both languages and helps fill in the gaps when I couldn’t hear something for whatever reason. It’s what works best for me and my family. Cruz has been thriving with both languages and right now he has more signs than spoken words.
