Oooh . Complex characters. Morally gray doesn’t touch the sides ! In paragon Hobb has almost done the impossible - make us love a ship - one of the most traumatised characters in the realm . And that’s quite a crowded field !

Felt the exact same. I recognised the quality of Ship of Magic but literally every character frustrated me so it was an exhausting read. I didn’t get to Mad Ship for a few months after but then devoured it and Destiny all at once
