@kellybaums: If you have chosen to disclose your ADHD at work, we’d love to hear how it went in the comments! #adhdatwork #adhdcheck #adhd #adhdawareness #disabilityrights #kellybaums
As a job seeker who’s already fighting ageism, I’m really scared to even disclose this on a job application. I know companies can’t discriminate on either but I’m still worried. Suggestions?

im about to be fired for my AUDHD. I did not present my AuDHD in an official way. I have had meetings saying I need written instructions, more structure, but I am being fired anyway. they think I dont know but I already saw my replacement in payroll system to start June 1st. what do I do?

I just want my manager to stop pressuring me to meet deadlines earlier than required. Sure, I try too when I can, but the pressure is paralyzing. She knows I have ADHD too. I constantly have to remind her I am protected by ADA.

Askjan.org has a good list of accommodations and how to request them. Most of mine are environmental so being a remote worker has been really helpful for me. But when I did work in an office, this is the resource I used to make my list and know how to ask and how much I had to disclose when initially asking.

I’m treated like a genius for my adhd sometimes - pattern recognition and spiral solution thinking being able to recognize obstacles and roadblocks way before my peers. I love my team.

I did an accommodations request for my ADHD and ALL of my accommodations were denied 🫠 one of my requests was to have “expectations in writing for me to reference as needed” “priorities outlined in writing”…..

It is very difficult to demonstrate discrimination because of ADHD. Leadership can always say that others did something better and that's the reason why they were given opportunities, even though you and everyone else can see that it's not true.Discrimination through very subtle actions is almost impossible to demonstrate and not enough to be able to submit a successful complaint for violations of the ADA.

My employer lived through my diagnosis along with me 😳🙄 and my team especially has been amazing and very supportive. We BOTH are thrilled that we found the reasons behind the issues I was having.

thankfully my work is amazing. my boss who has taught me so much, has been very accommodating without me having to ask. I honestly think shes undiagnosed herself lol she is very patient with me, and has worked hard at understand how I learn an being patient. honestly the only accommodation ive only needed thankfully is just time, patience, and letting me ask 5 million questions. that has helped alot. my boss asked me from the get go how I learn , and listened to it an learned how to help me. becauze of that , I have grown so much, and helped with my confidence. sometimes all we need is to be heard an alittle patience an understanding. 🥰

Thank you for sharing this! I can’t believe that ADHD is looked down on as a disability because I personally can find it so empowering if you learn how to manage it!

People don’t understand it. I just say neurological disorder and address the needs and symptoms. They don’t ever really need the actual diagnosis

What about calling you out in front of people saying you really need to write things down because you forgot something? Even though this isn’t something I make a habit of doing.

I never so because they’re unlikely to grant me any accommodations and I’ve already dealt with discrimination for my other disabilities

You don’t have to, and you shouldn’t disclose. Don’t listen. Keep to yourself and keep your head down. Don’t over share.
